Digital marriage and divorce registration: the rollout has been signed

Muslim marriage and divorce registration in Bangladesh is going digital. The 2025 amendment to the Muslim Marriages and Divorces (Registration) Rules 2009 allowed online registration, the High Court Division directed digitalisation in December 2025, and the ministry signed the implementation agreement in September 2026.

What the amendment allows

Under the amended 2009 Rules, registration fees can be paid online, register entries can be signed digitally, and marriage and divorce certificates can be issued in digital form.

The rollout

In December 2025 the High Court Division directed the government to digitalise marriage and divorce registration, and in September 2026 the ministry signed the implementation agreement. Kazi offices are being connected in phases.

Until your Kazi office is connected

The paper register entry remains the operative record, so keep certified copies of the kabin nama as before. Once digital certificates issue, they can be verified against a central database, and the plan is to link them with NID and passport records — which will make proving a marriage, or detecting a concealed one, far easier.

What it means for you

Nothing to do yet if you married under the paper system — but when you register a marriage or talaq from now on, ask the Kazi whether the office is connected and insist on the certified copies either way.
