Common questions
Does a power of attorney for land have to be registered?
Yes. Under the Power of Attorney Act 2012, a power of attorney to sell, transfer or mortgage immovable property must be registered. Without registration the sub-registrar will not accept a deed made under it.
How do I make a power of attorney from abroad?
We draft it here and send it to you. You sign it before the Bangladesh embassy or high commission, send it home, and it is authenticated by the Deputy Commissioner's office and stamped before use or registration.
What does a notary cost?
It depends on the document, the number of pages and the copies needed, plus any stamp duty. We tell you the full cost before you sign.
Is an agreement on stamp paper valid in court?
Yes, if it is properly stamped and signed, and witnessed where needed. Some agreements, such as a bainanama for land, must also be registered or they cannot be used to enforce the sale.
How do I correct a name on the NID?
Apply to the Election Commission through the NID correction service with supporting documents, usually the SSC certificate and birth certificate. An affidavit may be needed where the documents conflict. Our guide covers each case.
