Common questions
How are a family lawyer's fees worked out?
It depends on the work: advice only, a drafted document, or a case in court. We tell you the scope and the basis of the fee in writing before we start, so there are no surprises.
Can I instruct you from abroad?
Yes. Many of our clients live abroad. We take instructions by phone, WhatsApp or video, receive documents by email, and use a power of attorney where a step needs someone in Bangladesh.
Do I need a lawyer to give or answer a talaq notice?
The law does not require one, but mistakes in the notice, the Chairman's process or the registration cause later disputes over denmohor, maintenance and remarriage. A short consultation first is usually worth it.
Which court hears family cases?
The Family Court, under the Family Courts Act 2023. It hears cases on dissolution of marriage, restitution of conjugal rights, dower, maintenance, and guardianship and custody of children.
Warish certificate or succession certificate: which do I need?
A warish certificate from the Union Parishad, Pourashava or City Corporation lists the heirs and is used for mutation and many offices. A succession certificate from the civil court under the Succession Act 1925 is needed to collect a deceased person's bank deposits, shares and other debts.
Not sure which of these fits?
Describe your situation in ordinary language. We reply within 24 hours and point you to the right advocate. A written assessment costs nothing.
