Common questions
How long do I have to file a writ petition?
There is no fixed limitation period, but the High Court Division expects you to act promptly. Unexplained delay can be a reason to refuse relief, so file as soon as you can after the decision.
What does a writ in the High Court cost?
The court fee for a writ is small. Most of the cost is drafting, the affidavit and the hearings. We give you our fee basis in writing once we have read the order you want to challenge.
Can a borrower appeal an Artha Rin decree?
Yes, but the Artha Rin Adalat Act 2003 requires a deposit of part of the decreed amount before an appeal can be filed. The Act also encourages settlement through mediation during the case.
What must a worker do before going to the Labour Court?
For dismissal and similar grievances, the Bangladesh Labour Act 2006 generally requires a written grievance to the employer within a short period first, and then a case in the Labour Court within the time set after that. Act quickly and keep copies of everything.
Which body hears a government employee's service dispute?
Matters about the terms of service of government employees go to the Administrative Tribunal under the Administrative Tribunals Act 1980, with an appeal to the Administrative Appellate Tribunal. A writ is usually not the right route for these.
