For Business Clients
Businesses need two different kinds of legal help: routine registration and compliance, and advice or representation when a dispute arises. We divide the work accordingly, so each is handled by people who do it every day.
Company setup and compliance: LegalDesk.bd
Our sister platform LegalDesk.bd (https://legaldesk.bd) handles the formation and ongoing compliance work that most businesses need on a regular timetable. Requests for this work should be made through LegalDesk.bd, which has its own process and fee schedule.
- Company, partnership and branch or liaison office formation
- RJSC filings, including annual returns and changes of directors, shares and registered office
- BIDA registration, work permits and related approvals
- Trade licence, TIN and business registrations
- Income tax returns, withholding tax and tax compliance
- VAT registration, returns and routine VAT compliance
- Regulatory and statutory compliance calendars
Disputes and litigation: the chamber
When a business is in a dispute, facing enforcement action or needs to go to court, the matter is handled by the chamber’s advocates. This includes:
- Artha Rin Adalat suits, for banks and for borrowers defending recovery claims (Artha Rin and Banking Recovery)
- Company matters in the High Court Division, including winding up and shareholder disputes (Company Court and Winding Up)
- Appeals and references against income tax, VAT and customs decisions (Tax, VAT and Customs Appeals)
- Commercial and contract disputes, money recovery and legal notices (Money and Debt Recovery; Legal Notice and Reply)
- Cheque dishonour cases under section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act (Cheque Dishonour)
- Labour Court claims, termination disputes and workplace complaints (Labour Court and Employment Disputes)
- Writ petitions against unlawful regulatory action (Writ and Judicial Review)
When a compliance issue becomes a dispute
A missed filing, a VAT demand or a licence refusal can move from compliance into litigation. Where that happens, LegalDesk.bd and the chamber share the file with the client’s consent, so that the records and deadlines are not lost in the handover. Appeal deadlines against tax and VAT decisions are short, so contact us as soon as an adverse order is received.
Engagement and fees
Litigation and advisory work is agreed in a written engagement letter setting out the scope and fees before work begins. We check for conflicts of interest before accepting instructions. We cannot predict or promise the outcome of any case.
