Urgent legal help

Some things will not wait: an arrest, a bail application, an injunction deadline, or a hearing where non-appearance would cost you the case.

Call the chamber

Call 01772137777 during chamber hours. Outside those hours, 01772137777 is monitored for urgent matters.

If someone has been detained, write down the police station, the time of arrest, and the case or GD number before you call. Having those three things to hand saves an hour at the other end.

Chamber hours

Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 to 18:00

The first 24 hours after an arrest

The person arrested must be produced before a Magistrate within twenty-four hours. The police may apply for remand; the defence may apply for bail. Acting quickly and accurately in this window materially affects what follows. We appear at the production, oppose remand, and apply for bail — and where bail is refused, we move the Sessions Court and, if necessary, the High Court Division.

For the full process, see Arrest, Bail & Remand.
