Your court case in Bangladesh, run while you live abroad
A land suit filed years ago, a cheque case, a false criminal case, or a writ in the High Court Division. Cases here move slowly and hearings are adjourned often, which is hard to follow from another time zone. We take over the file, appear at every date, and tell you in writing what happened and what comes next.
What we handle for clients abroad
Taking over a case that is already running
We collect the case number and court, inspect the record, obtain certified copies of the plaint, written statement, orders and evidence, and give you a frank written assessment: where the case stands, what went wrong, and what can still be done. We then file a fresh vakalatnama and take over, or work alongside your existing lawyer if you prefer.
Acting through a power of attorney holder
Under Order III of the Code of Civil Procedure, a person holding your power of attorney can appear and take steps in civil cases on your behalf. We draft a power that covers the case and the related tasks, such as signing applications, depositing money and receiving documents, so your attorney is not stopped at the counter.
Evidence without flying home
Your evidence can sometimes be taken abroad on commission under Order XXVI, and courts can allow hearings and evidence by video under the Use of Information Technology by Courts Act 2020. Where the court needs you in person, we plan the visit around a date that will actually proceed, so one short trip is enough.
Criminal cases filed while you are abroad
NRBs are often named in cases filed by relatives or business partners after they leave. We check whether a case, warrant or travel restriction exists, obtain the documents, and plan how you surrender and apply for bail so that you are not arrested unprepared on arrival. In suitable cases a magistrate can excuse your personal attendance and let your lawyer appear. We also pursue quashing where a case is an abuse of process.
Cases in the High Court Division and the Appellate Division
Writ petitions, civil revisions, criminal appeals and bail matters in the Supreme Court are run by our advocates who practise there, with cause-list tracking every day the matter may appear.
Settlement and mediation
Many disputes with family or co-owners end better in a settlement. We negotiate, attend mediation, including pre-case mediation now required in a growing number of districts, and put any settlement into a document the court can record.

What we need from you

- A short timeline of the dispute, in English or Bangla
Timelines and costs
File inspection and a written assessment usually take one to two weeks, depending on the court. Cases themselves take as long as the court list allows; we will not promise dates we cannot control. We agree fees per stage or per hearing in advance, and court fees and certified-copy charges are separate and receipted.

Common questions
Can my case in Bangladesh continue while I live abroad?
Yes. Your lawyer appears on the dates, and in civil cases a power of attorney holder can take steps for you. You are needed in person mainly to give evidence, and even that can sometimes be taken on commission or by video.
How can I check my case status from abroad?
District court case information and the Supreme Court cause lists are available online, but the entries are brief. We read the order sheet and tell you what each order means for you.
A false case has been filed against me while I am abroad. What should I do?
Do not ignore it and do not travel without a plan. We obtain the case papers, check for a warrant, and plan surrender and bail, or a quashing application where the case is an abuse of process.
Can I give evidence by video from abroad?
The Use of Information Technology by Courts Act 2020 allows courts to take part of the proceedings virtually, and evidence can also be taken on commission. Whether it is allowed in your case is for the court; we make the application and arrange the logistics.
Can I change my lawyer in the middle of a case?
Yes. You sign a new vakalatnama, we obtain the previous lawyer’s no-objection where needed, and we collect the file. Your case continues without a new filing.
How will I know what happened at each hearing?
After every date we send a written note in English or Bangla: what happened, the next date and what, if anything, we need from you.
Company registration, investment, tax and business compliance for non-residents are handled by our associate firm LegalDesk.bd.
A case in Bangladesh you cannot attend?
Send the case number or any paper you have. We will check the file and tell you where it really stands. A written assessment costs nothing.
