Court marriage in Dhaka, done the lawful way
There is no separate "court marriage" procedure in Bangladesh. An affidavit alone does not make you married. We arrange the nikah with a licensed Kazi, register it, prepare the affidavit of free consent, and protect you both if a family tries to turn a marriage into a criminal case.
Is this you?
- Two adults want to marry without family support and want it done so that it cannot be questioned later
- You have an affidavit from a notary and have just learned that it is not a marriage
- One of you is a foreign national, or you belong to different religions
- The bride's family has threatened an abduction case and you need the marriage proved and bail planned
- You want a quiet, registered marriage with a certified nikahnama the same day
What we do for you
Checking that the marriage will be valid
Age (21 for the man, 18 for the woman), free consent, no legal bar such as an existing marriage or iddat, and two adult Muslim witnesses. A false birth certificate does not make an under-age marriage lawful; it adds forgery. We check NIDs and birth registration before anything is signed.
Nikah and registration with a licensed Kazi
The marriage itself is the nikah with proposal, acceptance, witnesses and an agreed denmohor, registered by a licensed Nikah Registrar. We arrange the Kazi, make sure the official fee is charged (Tk 14 per Tk 1,000 of denmohor up to Tk 5 lakh, minimum Tk 200), and obtain a certified copy of the nikahnama the same day.
Affidavit of free consent
After the nikah is registered, both of you swear an affidavit before a Notary Public or a First Class Magistrate stating that you are adults and married of your own free will. In that order it is strong evidence; on its own it protects no one.
If a family files a case
Objecting families often file abduction or rape complaints under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. We keep certified copies of everything in more than one place, arrange the wife’s own statement before a Magistrate under section 164 CrPC, and advise on anticipatory bail for the husband and his family at once.
Inter-faith and foreign-national marriages
A Muslim man may marry a Christian or Jewish woman by nikah; other inter-faith couples marry under the Special Marriage Act 1872, which needs notice to the Marriage Registrar, a 14-day wait, three witnesses and a declaration that affects inheritance later. For a foreign spouse we check the passport, single-status certificate and embassy requirements before fixing a date.
Hindu and Christian marriages
Hindu marriages are made by rites; registration under the Hindu Marriage Registration Act 2012 is optional but needed for passports, visas and inheritance, so we register. Christian marriages are solemnised under the Christian Marriage Act 1872.
Fees, time and documents
What we need from you
- NID or birth registration certificate of both of you (the age check is not optional)
- Two adult Muslim witnesses with their NIDs; for a Special Marriage Act marriage, three witnesses
- Passport-size photographs of both
- The denmohor you have agreed, and whether any part is paid at the time
- For a divorced or widowed bride: the divorce or death papers and the iddat dates
- For a foreign spouse: passport, visa, single-status or no-impediment certificate from the embassy, and proof of religion if relevant
Mistakes we see every week
- Swearing the affidavit first and skipping the Kazi. The affidavit is evidence, not a marriage.
- Paying a Kazi several times the official scale, or accepting an unregistered nikahnama.
- Marrying before the woman is 18 or the man 21 and hoping a corrected birth certificate will fix it. It will not.
- Keeping only one copy of the nikahnama. If a case is filed, the certified copy is your defence.
- Choosing the Special Marriage Act without understanding the declaration about religion and its effect on inheritance.

We verify age and status from NID or birth registration and confirm there is no legal bar.

Certified copies and safety plan
Certified nikahnama, affidavit and IDs are copied and stored; if a case is likely, the section 164 statement and bail plan are arranged.
Common questions
Is court marriage legal in Bangladesh?
The phrase is used, but there is no separate court procedure. What people call court marriage is an affidavit sworn before a notary or Magistrate. It is evidence of consent, not a marriage. A Muslim marriage is the nikah, registered with a licensed Kazi; that is what makes it lawful.
How much does court marriage cost in Dhaka?
The Kazi’s registration fee is set by the 2009 Rules as amended in 2022: Tk 14 for every Tk 1,000 of denmohor up to Tk 5 lakh, minimum Tk 200. Add the affidavit stamp and notary charge, and our fixed professional fee, quoted in writing.
What documents are needed?
NID or birth certificate of both, two adult Muslim witnesses with NID, photographs and the agreed denmohor. A foreign spouse needs a passport and a single-status or no-impediment certificate from their embassy.
What is the minimum age?
21 for the man and 18 for the woman under the Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017. Marrying under that age is an offence for the adult spouse, the people who arrange it and the person who registers it.
Can we marry without our parents' consent?
Yes, if you are both adults. Under the Hanafi law applied in Bangladesh an adult Muslim woman may marry without her guardian’s consent.
What if her family files an abduction case?
If you are both adults and the nikah is registered, the certified nikahnama, the affidavit and the wife’s own statement before a Magistrate under section 164 CrPC carry great weight. Take advice on anticipatory bail for the husband and his family at once.
Can a Muslim woman marry a non-Muslim man?
Not under Muslim law. Couples of different religions marry under the Special Marriage Act 1872, which requires notice, a 14-day wait and a declaration that can affect inheritance. We explain the consequences before you choose.
Can the marriage be done the same day?
Yes, where both of you attend with valid ID, the witnesses are present and there is no legal bar. Special Marriage Act and foreign-national marriages take longer.
Fees are confirmed in writing before any work begins. Government fees and court fees are separate and receipted.
Marry lawfully, with proof that holds
Message us the two NIDs and we will confirm eligibility and a date, usually within the same day. A written assessment costs nothing.
